Signs of a hidden leak
- Your water bill jumps and you can't explain why.
- You hear running water when every tap is off.
- A spot on the floor feels warm, which can point to a hot water leak under a slab.
- You see damp drywall, water stains or bubbling paint.
- A musty or moldy smell won't go away.
What to expect
Leak detection starts with narrowing down where the water is going. A plumber may check the water meter, the fixtures and any pipes they can see first. Leaks behind walls or under floors can often be traced with listening tools or other equipment, so less of the wall or floor has to be opened. Once the leak is found, the fix depends on the pipe and where it runs. It may be a repair at one spot, or a section of pipe may need to be replaced. Fixing a leak early helps limit water damage to floors, walls and cabinets.

…I had a water leak that flooded the whole first floor of my house and he was able to be at my house and find the issue within 10 minutes. He fixed the issue the very next morning on a Sunday!…
★★★★★ Shasta · via Google · Dan is the best! I've used him several times for different problems - from needing my water main repaired, then replaced to my hot water heater leaking, to the latest, fixing an amateur attempt at outdoor plumbing. Dan showed up on a Saturday night because we'd been without water in the house for a couple days, and had the problem fixed within an hour - and that included a trip to get the necessary parts!

Common questions
How can I check for a leak myself?
Turn off every faucet and appliance that uses water. Then look at your water meter. If the dial or leak indicator is still moving, water may be leaking somewhere.
What should I do if a pipe bursts?
Shut off the water at the main valve. Then call a plumber.
